Women’s Retreat

The annual women’s lenten retreat will be held on the third Saturday of Great Lent, April 6th. The theme will be “Reflections on Mother Siluana Vlad’s Lord, Where is the Wound?” It is not necessary to read the book in advance, but for those interested it is available at https://sebastianpress.org/god-where-is-the-wound/ as well as on Kindle. Schedule for the day:

  • 8:45 Divine Liturgy followed by Memorial and lunch.
  • 12:30 First talk & discussion
  • 2:00 Second talk & discussion

Fr. John will lead the talks and discussions. If you plan on being present for lunch, please let the nuns know in advance.

The Akathist Hymn is a poetic masterpiece written by Saint Romanos the Melodist in the 6th century. In the Byzantine Orthodox tradition (Greek, Antiochian, Romanian), on the first four Friday evenings of Lent a portion of the Akathist is read along with the service of Small Compline. The service is also known as the “Salutations”, as each verse of the Akathist begins with the “Hail!” of the Archangel Gabriel (Luke 1:28).
